All About Chiropractic

Chiropractors are board certified doctors who specialize in the musculoskeletal system and are licensed in many states as primary care physicians. The big difference with traditional medical doctors and chiropractors is that we like to use hands on therapy to treat the whole body through natural means where as the medical community will generally prescribe a pill to help you. Both types of doctors can be extremely helpful depending on which condition a patient has. In the United States chiropractic and medical school education are very similar with the same required classroom hours in anatomy, physiology, pathology, biochemistry, microbiology, neurology, x-rays, and orthopedics. Not only are chiropractors experts in the field of musculoskeletal complaints, but they work to take tension and pressure off the spine in order to let the nerves coming out of the spine function at an optimal level. Research done at the University of Colorado had concluded that even the small weight of a dime could have a diminishing affect on never impulses. Chiropractors study for years and use a variety of techniques to help restore proper health and heal muscles, tendons, ligaments through adjusting your spine, adjusting your diet and adjusting your mindset on health.

"The doctor of the future will give no medicine but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease." - attributed to Thomas Edison.

All About Acupuncture

Irvine's Acupuncture & Chiropractic & Sports Medicine Center

Body pains have emerged as the most common health related issue with the proximate cause being damaged muscles. Acupuncture & Chiropractic Care are extremely efficient ways that can provide long-term benefits for all types of pain (especially back pain, headache, knee pain etc). Cosmetic acupuncture is a technique where a fine needle is inserted under the skin to push wrinkles back out while having the body produce fibrous tissue under the wrinkle.

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a healing art that has been used for centuries. It is based on the premise that Qi (pronounced che) is flowing through your body all the time though specific pathways called meridians and channels (similar to the blood flowing throughout the arteries and veins). This Qi provides energy and vitality to all the organs and systems of the body. If this Qi becomes blocked or impaired in any way it can manifest itself though specific symptoms in the body. Acupuncturists are trained in depth on how to recognize these symptoms and provide a systematic approach on how to restore the body to its natural balanced state

According to the California State Board of Acupuncture and the California Chiropractic Board, the most commonly treated conditions by licensed acupuncturist and chiropractors are

All About Physiotherapy

Myofacial Release Technique

Myofacial release is technique that uses specific hands on therapy to break away scar tissue and adhesions that have developed in a problematic muscle or joint anywhere in the body. It can restore and fix a joint's normal range of motion, while lengthening specific muscles so the muscle is not as tight and ridged. These types of therapies also include Active Release Technique, Post-Isometric Release Technique and Specific Restricted Range of Motion Therapy.

Transcutaneous Electrical Stimulation

Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation is a common therapeutic procedure used world-wide because of its' time tested results to decrease pain and inflammation, promote blood flow and heal damaged tissue in a given area. It can significantly decrease pain and shorten the time of healing and/or recovery to the musculoskeletal system from injuries acquired through sports, motor vehicle accidents, and other traumas.

Spinal Decompression

Spinal Decompression is a type of therapy used to decrease the pressure on not only the joints of the spine, but also on the inter-vertebral disc. When a disc is herniated / "bulging" or protruding past its normal given area in the back moderate to sever pain can occur and Non-invasive spinal decompression can greatly reduce the amount of tension and stress the spinal joints and disc are undergoing.

Intersegmental Traction

Intersegmental Traction is another type of therapy that is completely Non-invasive. It uses ones own body weight to decompress not only the joints and inter-vertebral discs but also decreases the tightness and tension on the para-spinal muscles that run along the spine. The patient would lay face up in a comfortable position while mechanical rollers push up in a rolling fashion on the patients back, decreasing the tension in joints, discs and muscles along the spine while increasing blood flow throughout the back. Many patients state that it feels like a nice, comfortable massage, but its actually therapeutic benefits are plentiful.

Therapeutic Ultrasound

Therapeutic Ultrasound is a healing modality generally used for muscle, tendons and ligaments that have undergone some type of sprain or strain. The device produces a therapeutic sound wave that can penetrate the skin and soft tissue. It has been shown that ultrasound speeds up the healing process by increasing blood flow to the treated area, decreases pain, and reduces swelling.
